u When disposing of batteries, follow the instructions given

in the section “Protecting the environment”.

Do not attempt to charge damaged batteries.

Chargers

u Use your BLACK+DECKER charger only to charge the

battery in the tool with which it was supplied. Other batter-

ies could burst, causing personal injury and damage.

u Never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.

u Have defective cords replaced immediately.

u Do not expose the charger to water.

u Do not open the charger.

u Do not probe the charger.

The charger is intended for indoor use only.

Read the instruction manual before use.

Electrical safety

Your charger is double insulated; therefore no

earth wire is required. Always check that the

mains voltage corresponds to the voltage on the

rating plate. Never attempt to replace the charger

unit with a regular mains plug.

uIf the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the

manufacturer or an authorised BLACK+DECKER Service

Centre in order to avoid a hazard.

Charging tool (g.A)

The battery needs to be charged before rst use and whenev-

er it fails to produce sufcient power on jobs that were easily

done before. The battery may become warm while charging;

this is normal and does not indicate a problem.

Warning! Only use the charger provided to charge the tool.

u To charge the battery, insert the charger plug (7) into the

charging port (8).

u Plug in the charger.

u Leave the tool connected to the charger for 4 hours.

The charger may hum and become warm while charging; this

is normal and does not indicate a problem.

Warning! Do not charge the battery at ambient temperatures

below 10 °C or above 40 °C. Recommended charging tem-

perature: approx. 24 °C.

Assembly

Warning! Before assembly, engage the lock off collar as

described in gure C.

Fitting the shaft to the motor unit (Fig. B)

u The shaft (4) will only t onto the motor unit (3) one way.

u Push until it clicks into place as shown in gure B.

u Your tool can be used with or without the extension shaft

(4) tted as illustrated in gure B.

Fitting and removing a screwdriver bit (Fig. B)

uTo t a screwdriver bit (9), push it into the bit holder (5a or

5b) until it locates.

uTo remove a screwdriver bit, pull it straight from the bit

holder.

Use

Warning! Let the tool work at its own pace. Do not overload.

Forward/reverse/lock off collar (Fig. C)

uThe forward/reverse/lock off collar (2) allows you to use

the tool as a regular manual screwdriver. You can give

an extra twist to rmly tighten a screw or to loosen a very

tight screw.

uTo activate the lock off feature, turn the collar (2) to the

centre position.

uTo release the lock off, turn the collar (2) to the right or left.

Operating the tool (Fig. D, E)

uTo tighten a screw, turn the forward/reverse/lock off collar

(2) to the right then keep the on/off switch (1) depressed.

uTo loosen a screw, turn the forward/reverse/lock off collar

(2) to the left and keep the on/off switch (1) depressed.

uTo switch the tool off, release the on/off switch (1).

uWhile the on/off switch (1) is depressed, the work light (6)

will be activated.

uThe work light will still operate when the tool is in the

centre (lock off position).

Hints for optimum use

uAlways use the correct type and size of screwdriver bit.

uIf screws are difcult to tighten, try applying a small

amount of washing liquid or soap as a lubricant.

uUse the forward/reverse/lock off collar in the centre posi-

tion to loosen very tight screws or to rmly tighten screws.
